SLADA provides extensive anti-doping education to thousands of athletes each year.Education helps athletes,parents and support staff understand their rights and responsibilities as well as what to expect from the drug testing process. Topics include prohibited substances, TUEs, and sample collection among others.
Apart from Dope Control Tests, a special 5day Outreach Program was conducted by Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency (SLADA), for the athletes who participated at the Sri Lanka Army Inter Regiment Athletic Championships which was held for the 57th time at the Sugathadasa Sports Complex from 2021.11.22-2021.11.26.
The Convention against Doping in Sports Act” No. 33 of 2013 was drafted on 9th day of September 2013 to give effect to the International Convention against Doping in Sport” to make provision for the implementation of the said convention by the establishment of the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency and for specifying the applicable Domestic Legal Mechanism to combat doping in sport within the framework of the Aforesaid Convention.
Research unit acquires a prominent place among other basic objectives of the Agency’ it expects to identify new trends in Doping Testing and Usage of Prohibited Substances and methods.Also, Sri Lanka being an eastern country in which indigenous medicine also acquires a prominence place’ players sometimes take indigenous medicine from Ayurwedic Doctors and others from different medical systems. So, it is important to do a research on indigenous medicine to identify the content in those medicine and to see whether it prohibited substance according to WADA Code’
Usage of Prohibited Substances and its ill effects is still a new topic to Sri Lanka. General Public and people who are engaged in sports (players, trainers, coachers, parents) do not have a proper understanding on Doping Control. As a result this institute owes a responsibility to build up public awareness in this regard. Therefore, we conduct all Island Awareness program series District funded by UNESCO and in addition to that Awareness Programs are conducted to enlighten Sports. Also, we are planning to organize a school level seminar series to make school children aware and teach them how to get rid of this menace.
