TUE

Therapeutic Use Exemptions

HOW TO APPLY TO SLADA FOR A TUE?

If you have a significant health condition, you may apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption to use a prohibited substance or method. The treatment must not improve your performance beyond a return to normal and there must be no other alternative treatment available.

Who should apply for TUE

All Sri Lanka citizens who take part in competitive sports with significant health problem that require prohibited substance or method as treatments should apply for TUE.

Key athlete responsibilities

For a substance or method to be prohibited, it must meet two of the following three conditions:

  • Inform all medical personnel that they must abide by the anti-doping rules of the sport and any medical treatment prescribed must not violate these rules.
  • The substance or method has the potential to risk the athlete’s health.
  • When prescribed a substance or method, check if it is prohibited by using Global DRO/DR app.
  • If the medication is prohibited, check with the prescribing physician to see if there are any alternative treatments that are permitted by the sport.
  • If there are no permitted alternatives, contact the National Governing Body to find out if they require a TUE prior to starting treatment or retrospectively following doping control.
  • If a TUE is required, complete the relevant TUE form and attach the required medical evidence.
